Shaking things up

This multi-platform brand identity was built around the idea of disruption and breaking boundaries, both culturally and creatively. The goal was to move the channel away from a dated, generic look and embrace a minimal, type-driven approach that would stand apart from other networks.

Finding new rhythms

During the design exploration phase, I had this idea that the new sonic identity for the channel could be based entirely on a suite of percussion tracks that draw from a wide range of Latin music genres and celebrate the channel’s diverse audience. We could then layer in real street sounds captured on location to make the tracks feel more cinematic and unique.

The client loved the idea, and then Trollbäck CCO, Alex Moulton, immediately linked me up with Cheo Pardo, formerly of Los Amigos Invisibles, who was absolutely amazing to work with and did a beautiful job bringing it to life.

Part of my goal with the audio was for NBC Universo to have the only on-air graphic system driven entirely by percussive jump cuts rather than key-framed animation. This gives the brand a unique rhythmic punch, and allows the network’s editorial team a faster, more flexible workflow.
